The one analytics event most teams miss on their checkout page
Everyone tracks add-to-cart and purchase. Almost no one tracks the moment a shopper opens the coupon field and closes it again empty-handed.

The coupon field is a confession booth. If a shopper opens it and does not submit a code, they are telling you they expected a discount that did not exist — and they are about to bounce.
What to instrument
- coupon_field_opened — fires on focus
- coupon_applied — fires on successful apply
- coupon_abandoned — fires on blur with no submission
Segment by traffic source. If paid traffic abandons the coupon field at 3× the rate of organic, your ad creative is over-promising a discount that the landing page does not reinforce. That is a creative fix, not a checkout fix.
